Chelsea duo Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham have praised the qualities English compatriot Jack Grealish brings to any team, amid fresh links to a Stamford Bridge move this summer.
Grealish, 25, featured sporadically at Euro 2020 with Mount and was part of a special Three Lions team that made it to the final of the completion- only to lose on penalties to Roberto Mancini’s Italy side.
With all national team players still on holiday, with most expected to return at the start of August for pre-season, speculation back home on a number of different players’ futures with their respective clubs have risen to the surface.
One of those Euro 2020 stars Grealish has been linked to a shock Villa exit, with a number of clubs interested in the Birmingham-born midfielder.
It is understood that Chelsea have been long-term admirers of the 25-year-old, and are prepared to hijack Manchester City’s £100million move for the English midfielder.
According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Grealish is seen as the ideal man to take Chelsea forward as the Blues try to meddle with City’s deal.
It’s no wonder the Blues hierarchy view him as the player to take the club forward, with current star Mount believing Aston Villa’s talisman is a ‘world class’ player.
Speaking to Indy Football via villareport on Twitter, Mount said in November 2020: “On Jack you know what he can do, he’s a world class player that can create and score goals and that’s what we need in any England team.”
Similarly to Mount, linked away Blues forward Abraham has viewed Grealish in the past as leader with both having played together when the 23-year-old had his successful loan spell at Villa Park.
“He is a fantastic player and you don’t question why he is a leader. His ability says it all,” the on-loan Chelsea forward said in January 2021.
“He is a such a good leader as well. For us it is a massive bonus to have someone like Jack in the team. I don’t think he ever runs out of breath – he keeps going.
“I always think to myself, does he ever get tired? Someone like him gets the ball and he keeps going and keeps going.
“He always believes and tries to encourage everyone – even until the last minute. It is always nice to have that behind you.”
Having two glowing references is more than good, but three takes someone’s pedigree to a new level and Thomas Tuchel pointed to statistics to state just how important Dean Smith’s man could be to any team.
“Look at the statistics! Aston Villa with and without him are different teams,” Tuchel told Sky Sports.
“He is involved in almost every offensive situation. He is very good at decision-making.
“He has a lot of composure in assisting, finishing and bringing people around him in top situations, dangerous situations to be able to score.
“He is a top player and [there is] a lot to take care of and be aware of to control him on Sunday. What he does in the future is in his hands.”
It’s fair to say that the German plus the two Blues players are huge fans of Grealish, so if Chelsea can beat City to his signature, we can expect to see a lot of him in blue.
Aston Villa’s number seven featured in 27 games in all competitions last season, helping Dean Smith’s side by providing 19 goal contributions.
